Unfortunately I can't get the audiobook: "A moral case for fossil fuels" from audible UK. US site must have sussed me out by my debit card.Comment

You can get the text on Kindle for just over a tenner. You'll be aware that his viewpoint is at odds with the majority of scientific and economic work done on the issue, not least by Richard Tol who has published 200 papers on this and related topics, in contrast to Epstein's zero.Originally posted by SpontaneousOrder View PostThis guy is pretty good.

steel making is a business and it should operate as such. If it cannot pay its way it should be closed. There is no magic tree of money so unless you want to stump up 90% of your earnings it is better off closed. as a society we choose to heap huge costs onto business with emission laws, labour laws, health and safety laws. I am afraid we cannot have it both ways and hope to compete with Asian producers.Originally posted by rl4engc View Post.. except they're not businesses really are they, they're utilities that have been privatised and thus run for quarter-to-quarter profits rather than to keep a country functioning for any length of time.
I think you'll find it will cost the government a lot more money to clean up/replace these closed industries, than the private companies save by closing them.Let us not forget EU open doors immigration benefits IT contractors more than anyoneComment

Majority of scientific work is done in an environment where funding is from government and disagreeing on the topic is career suicide - plus 'the majority of scientific work' has failed, as of yet, to produce any scientific evidence.
meanwhile there are several billion people in the developing world who will benefit as our ancestors did, from the economic growth fossil fuiels will bring. The mortality rates speak for themselves.Comment

So that's all of economics and most science dismissed then. Must save you a lot of time. I shall ignore anything said by Epstein because he is a Randian libertarian and thus not credible on climate change.Originally posted by SpontaneousOrder View PostMajority of economists are Keynesians - so thats like being concerned that the homeopathists disagree.

There's oodles of it, you just dismiss stuff that doesn't fit your world view.*'the majority of scientific work' has failed, as of yet, to produce any scientific evidence.
And it is those same developing countries that will suffer most from climate change, fortunately, as China is demonstrating, it is possible to decouple economic growth from emissions. My subconscious is annoying. It's got a mind of its own.Comment
