All over the news, she's being portrayed as "a great role model for young British Muslims".
While she probably is, why does this even need to be a thing? When the Aussie guy won the Apprentice, was he feted as a great role model for Aussies in Britain?
Is this a media thing? And if it is, doesn't it just create barriers and an us-v-them mentality? -
That the fact a Muslim woman won is causing substantial controversy explains why this comparison is a bad one.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

Oh? I didn't think the win was controversial at all, she seemed like a worthy winner.Originally posted by d000hg View PostThat the fact a Muslim woman won is causing substantial controversy explains why this comparison is a bad one.
I was just wondering why she was being feted as a "British Muslim role model", and why when other minorities (eg Australians) win competitions they aren't also feted as being role models for their communities, and whether this distinction is media-driven and/or highlighting an "us vs them" mentality.Comment

Why would you consider someone who won the apprentice a role model?Originally posted by meridian View PostAll over the news, she's being portrayed as "a great role model for young British Muslims".

I don't watch any tulip reality tv programmes, so they can stuff their soggy bottoms where the sun don't shineSocialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.
No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.Comment

In Intel's dystopian paradise watching these kind of reality shows will net you a position in my new reality show.."Escape from the Shetland Islands".Originally posted by PurpleGorilla View PostIt's over. Hurrah. Enough about bloody cakes!
It's a bit like Escape from New York but with a lot more sheep and a bit of a "Battle Royale" twist....Have you tried switching it off and back on again??Comment

Well you're bringing it up for a startOriginally posted by meridian View PostOh? I didn't think the win was controversial at all, she seemed like a worthy winner.
But there are also a whole bunch of people complaining about a Muslim - especially one wearing a head-covering (oh no) winning. Saying it's indicative of modern society, claiming it's a BBC conspiracy, etc, etc. You wouldn't get any of that if she was Australian.
