"Laurens and Alison Verkade met at primary school in Fifties Canada. Now 61, they have since built a life together in Montreal – working at the elite McGill University and bringing up their two children, John and Anne.
But after six decades abroad, the couple want to return to Britain – where Alison left at the age of three. They’d like to live near their thirtysomething son and daughter, who have both settled near London, and be around half an hour’s journey from the capital.
“We need help with this big decision – we’ve lived our entire lives in Canada,” the couple said.
They live in a £220,000 four-bedroom cottage in the Montreal suburbs with their two dogs, Grendel and Benjamin. They are mortgage-free and have amassed generous pensions that will pay £60,000 between them once they retire next year. "
