This "jobs people dont want to do" is a smokescreen you never heard it 20 yrs ago. Just lower benefits/pay in vouchers and stop companies expecting the taxpayer to subsidise low paying employment for subsets of the workforce. Result a higher takeup of manual labour jobs
£10 an hour with unpaid breaks in the SE is hardly amazing money £400 a week. Try raising kids on that. However other bus companies are replacing their British & European drivers with Somalian to save £2 an hour....
If we must have immigrants lets have highly qualified ones.
As to the let them all in brigade, you are just encouraging smuggling and deaths on the way.Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.Comment

I worked with an Australian for a couple of years until his work permit expired and although he could stay, he wasn't allowed to work or contribute to the British economy or pay taxes. So he went back to Australia and worked for us and paid taxes there. Nothing about that was good.
I know the UKIP fantasy is that leaving the EU means we'll be able to pick and choose who comes into the UK whilst British people and British companies will be warmly welcomed everywhere they want to go by people who recognise our inherent superiority, but that's not really realistic. Leaving the EU means making life harder and taking away opportunities for British people as much as anyone else. Will work inside IR35. Or for food.Comment

Mostly you'd have to have an employer willing to sponsor you to get the work permit, which counts out most people and most types of jobs as it's not worth the effort. And the work permit is temporary, so even if you go somewhere and build a great life for yourself you're still constantly under threat of being kicked out. And it also counts out the hundreds of thousands that fancy retiring abroad. My Father and Step-Mother have retired to France and they're very happy there, and it appears the French are very happy to have them what with moving into a village and restoring houses that would otherwise be desolate. They're certainly not rich, so probably wouldn't qualify under any other system.

Yes, of course if you work permit runs out and the employer does not renew it, you cannot work. Seems fair enough. In most countries if you've been resident and worked long enough you can apply for perm residency.
Again fair to all. Similar to grown up countries like Australia, NZ, Canada etc.Comment

Its a bit like 'all migrants are afraid for their life' & ' migrants come here to do the jobs the Brits don't want to do'.Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.Comment
