Are they all coming back when the UK leaves the EU?
Only if I can claim benefits
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

And a good chunk of them are going to be old, so will have a disproportionate effect on the NHS at the same time that the NHS can't get any nurses thanks to the UK leaving the EU.

        Vote UKIP!
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

This "jobs people dont want to do" is a smokescreen you never heard it 20 yrs ago. Just lower benefits/pay in vouchers and stop companies expecting the taxpayer to subsidise low paying employment for subsets of the workforce. Result a higher takeup of manual labour jobs
Friend of mine is a Bus Driver, he has a young family and is willing to do almost anything to stay in work.

£10 an hour with unpaid breaks in the SE is hardly amazing money £400 a week. Try raising kids on that. However other bus companies are replacing their British & European drivers with Somalian to save £2 an hour....

If we must have immigrants lets have highly qualified ones.

As to the let them all in brigade, you are just encouraging smuggling and deaths on the way.

Not all of them no. Here's a shock for the average CUK reader. British people lived in European countries before we joined the EU. You have to register for residence and pass certain tests (employment, income mostly) and get a visa and work permit.

A much fairer and better system for every country in Europe!

Eh? If we let them all in (which I certainly don't agree with) then there'd be no need for smuggling or deaths on the way. Why would 50 people cram themselves into a lorry if they were allowed in?

Jumping through lots of hoops and lots of unnecessary paper work and bureaucracy is hardly better or fairer. Mostly you'd have to have an employer willing to sponsor you to get the work permit, which counts out most people and most types of jobs as it's not worth the effort. And the work permit is temporary, so even if you go somewhere and build a great life for yourself you're still constantly under threat of being kicked out. And it also counts out the hundreds of thousands that fancy retiring abroad. My Father and Step-Mother have retired to France and they're very happy there, and it appears the French are very happy to have them what with moving into a village and restoring houses that would otherwise be desolate. They're certainly not rich, so probably wouldn't qualify under any other system.

I worked with an Australian for a couple of years until his work permit expired and although he could stay, he wasn't allowed to work or contribute to the British economy or pay taxes. So he went back to Australia and worked for us and paid taxes there. Nothing about that was good.

I know the UKIP fantasy is that leaving the EU means we'll be able to pick and choose who comes into the UK whilst British people and British companies will be warmly welcomed everywhere they want to go by people who recognise our inherent superiority, but that's not really realistic. Leaving the EU means making life harder and taking away opportunities for British people as much as anyone else.

You can retire abroad too, you don't have to work, as long as your net worth and pension/investment income meets certain levels. So older people can sell their $1M council flats in central London and retire abroad, many countries would welcome them with that amount of cash to bring into the economy.

Yes, of course if you work permit runs out and the employer does not renew it, you cannot work. Seems fair enough. In most countries if you've been resident and worked long enough you can apply for perm residency.

Again fair to all. Similar to grown up countries like Australia, NZ, Canada etc.

no 1st world government is quite stupid enough to let them all in, however people shouting we need to show them compassion, are you a racist, why not let them all in prevents the government dealing with it logically. The logical solution is to pull up the drawbridge and refuse any economic migrants, we can take valid asylum seekers from a European pool.

Its a bit like 'all migrants are afraid for their life' & ' migrants come here to do the jobs the Brits don't want to do'.
