Dividend tax pretty much does level what was previously a very UN-level playing field, in terms of take-home % on equivalent earnings.

The reason you pay so much tax now is because you earn so much. If you took a lower rate, you could cut your tax payments drastically.

Wow genius. I have a plan to reduce everyone's tax payments to zero.

And that is the reward for the risk that I'm taking, plus I have to put money aside for a rainy day as I have no benefits or security to fall back on.

He doesn't get that whatsoever. Permies have a million pages of legal protection to ensure they never suffer any hardship or loss of income whilst at work. Legal govt protection.

We have feck all, just constant govt attacks.

Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.

No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.

The reward is you earn a lot more, not that you pay less tax on what you earn.

You seem unable to differentiate between absolute and relative. You will now receive about the same relative take-home, but on a much higher income than a permie... so of course your tax bill will be higher than a permie's.

So how is it that all other businesses get to enjoy preferential tax treatment then relative to PAYE income, with the justification being that they bear risk? Bearing in mind that risk refers to the possibility and not necessarily the realisation of a negative outcome. Some firms face very low risk yet no one is proposing making them pay rates similar to PAYE.

Also, given that contractors forsake many legal protections the govt provides to contractors, again why should the tax rate be the same? I don't think you have any real argument worth mentioning on this front.

Hands up any contractors that have actually lost money.

                    You don't bear a risk.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

Yes we've discussed that part, but what about the risk I'm taking?
