After Osbourne's attack on IT contractors

So we have the dividend tax, removal of the NI Employment allowance for sole directors, which means for the average contractor, they will be £600 a year better off than a perm employer with a similar before tax income. Take off accountancy costs, insurances and other general costs in running a limited, and tax wise it is actually better being a permenant employee.

All the risks of running a business (HMR&C investigations, contract terminations, forced mid-contract rate cuts, late and non paying agents/clients) are not compensated in any way. This is ignoring the fact that if you are sick or unable to work, you receive nothing.

Around the corner is a further attack on expenses and travel reimbursement, what are people planning to do?

      ...

I'm planning to watch internet forums religiously so that I can take advantage of every wheeze that appears as a result of the new laws.

Did you miss the lube tax for contractors ?
Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.

No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.

Can you show your workings out? i.e what is an average contractor, what permie salary you compared it to, what salary/dividend setup they use, how you accounted for not paying (much) personal NI, etc?

I rather suspect your sums are about as valid as UKIP's pre-election budget.

Now the Tories have shown the contempt for the flexible workforce, I don't feel any compunction about every tax dodging wheeze going.

Fair play to anyone who hides or shifts their money about to avoid the greedy and punitive tentacles of this grabbing chancellor.

The before tax income will always be signficantly more for the majority of higher end contractors, as such your logic is flawed.

I will keep more money in the company for a rainy day, shovel more money into my SIPP and wait until the T&S thing pans out before panicking

There's quite a sense of entitlement amongst contractors. Apparently we're entitled to earn more money for a better working lifestyle, and to tax breaks as well.
