I have never had a car keyed in a "bad area" but buy current and previous car was keyed near home in an expensive area. I saw some cars freshly keyed this morning. The last time a culprit was caught it was a 40 something year old Liberal Party activist who was against cars driving in the city. There was also a spate of tyre slashing some years ago, the culprit was an irate cyclist.

Next time you see the neighbour, tell them about it. Because the neighbourly thing to do would be to tell everyone that someone is out keying cars and they should watch out for it.

        Play nice.

As someone said mention it to your neighbour and tell him you hope it does not happen to him make out you are upset also.

Set up a camera to look at your car as the above may make him think it is getting to you.

Then once you have firm evidence bounce the fu<kers head off the pavement till he is on liquids for a few months.

                    Simples

While there's a 1% chance it wasn't him you can't really take it up with the tosser, so you have to play it smart and slow burn i.e. stealth CCTV. I had to do this a while ago and it wasn't too expensive.

A couple of "Hikvision" 1080p cameras I think came to about £300, and a POE Router. Plumbed this all into my existing 24/7 server with a new 2Tb hard drive just for CCTV. It has motion detect so you park the car in the same place and highlight 'zones'. The next day you review the footage on a time graph and see what's gone on.

                      Few tips:

                      1) I hid the cameras inside, they're not small (a bit bigger than a coke can, once out of their weather housing) I put black tape all over the front, just leaving a hole for the lens (about 10mm) wrapped the lot in a black sock and hid one in a vent brick looking out, and one I just had hidden amongst a shelf of stuff I'd put against the window.

                      2) Each camera has two streams, for the live video (i.e. viewing, not recording) you only need the VGA stream, otherwise it's using tons of CPU.
                      3) If there's plenty of streetlight you won't need IR lights (camera has one built in) otherwise you'll need a external, non-visible (i.e. no red glow) light.
                      4) Resolution of these cameras is so good it's easy to secure a conviction i.e. you can recognize faces, there'll be no doubt in any trial.
