With the low-paid and often part-time jobs available today, and the cost of living (including rent and student loans), most young people can barely afford to save anything, and they could work for years and still have nowhere near enough to afford a place of their own.
It is what they choose to do.

If they want the high-paid and full time jobs, they should work their arse off and be "smart", go to a Uni instead of throwing bottles on people's cars, breed like pigs for benefits and take cheap thompson holidays in magaluf.

Ignore all that, and just look at prices.

Around my way you can get 1 bed flats for about 180K+, 2 bed flats 220K+. Even if you go by the (in my mind) over-extension of 4x income that means you're needing to earn 45-50K. And of course save a deposit.

You don't have to be low paid for things to be out of reach. Instead, people just borrow more and more than they can really afford, borrowing from families AND banks.

I see nothing more than hypocrisy in blaming the house prices.

Are we so thick to understand the reasons?

Exactly! Was going to make the same point.

But no doubt FLC will find some obsure part of the UK where one can buy a flat or terraced house for half that, never mind that it is 50 rural miles from the nearest city where most people need to be based to have a full time job.

If only they didn't lean so much.

Yes you are thick, and a bit of a bigot.

Not seen that guy before, good speaker, very believable and he made a lot of good sense.

There's a fair number of places along the M62 that you can buy a 2 bed house for sub 100k, more than a few crappy areas near to major cities where a terrace can be got for sub 70k.

That all being said there's an awful lot of the country where sub 200k would barely get you a cardboard box "studio" flat.

Doesn't matter when one has loads of spare cash and lives in a villa with four toilets.

BTW, only if you'd spend more time in fixing your fibre deficit ...
