A thousand pounds interest a week would require you to have 3.7 million in the bank assuming a 1.4% interest rate...

Having enough money to make small luxuries an insignificant cost is not Warren Buffet territory. It happens to most people reaching middle age with a full time job.

Bad assumprtions. First it was around $750, second my savings average is 4.6%. Some of us took how long terms bonds & saving accounts a long time before interest rates crashed.

I'll let you do the maths

Having enough money takes the day to day worry of it out of your mind; which is a lovely place to be.
Over the years I've met a handful of permies who I thought would make excellent contractors. However, none would take the plunge because of the mortgage, the kids and/or the missus. One told me he had thought about it only for his in-laws to come down on him like a ton of bricks, the in-laws?

I enjoy the money, that's for sure but I also enjoy the freedom too. I haven't dealt with an HR pleb for nearly 3 years, that's a bonus.

That requires a slightly less plutocratic $848,000 in the bank under a 4.6% interest rate. A screen shot of the account would be great.

wasn't a brag someone suggested being well off meant doing better than family especially the brother in law. I actually earn the least of my siblings, I'm still pretty well off and glad of it daily.

It may be that it's not that you want less stuff, it's that more of the things on your "to buy" list are getting ticked off, so there's less to buy anyway.

And then there's us tight wads.

I bought my MBP in 2011 and I've got another 2 good years left in it.

I will treat myself to the next iPhone 6+ that's coming out in October though, my iPhone4 is beginning to have apps refusing to download.

Working very late one night in the city, I had to spend £11.50 on a gourmet burger. Took me months to get over it.
