Not disputing the number of votes they got, but having 1 or 2 seats, I think, means that Cameron will pretty much ignore them. I think that this was their big chance to make an impact and it didn't really materialise.

Not so long ago, they were at 19% in the polls and were talking about taking 100s of seats.

But even before the election results, the polls were heading downwards.

If Cameron loses his majority, he'll be talking to the DUP rather than UKIP - because the DUP actually have a group of MPs that he can use rather than one person on his own.

I don't know he needs a lot of MPs; it is clear a lot of people agree with what he says. Given Nigel's biggest aim is to get out of the EU, his only real job now is to hound Cameron into holding a referendum.

Well, that makes more sense

I said some time back that unless Cameron was a complete and utter dick-splash, he should be trouncing someone as seriously inept as Miliband. Every time he tried to speak with any kind of passion, he came across like someone who had just failed his foundation acting class.

Can't imagine UKIP wielding any kind of influence for the next 3-4 years until we start to build up to the next election though, when the tories start looking at electioneering again, and need to pull back all the support they will lose mid-term.

Next year in Wales an element of PR comes in, it would be ironic if UKIP make inroads in Wales just because of a change in voting system, expect the lefties to suddenly complain PR is the end of the world

Politicians couldn't give a stuff about a few million voters if they're spread thin. Elections tend to hinge on a few thousand voters in specific constituencies.

Incidentally, when he was talking of his nice break over the summer, he appeared to have forgotten the fact that he's employed as an MEP, and the European Parliament won't start its summer recess for a fair while yet. So he's actually got a job to be getting on with, in return for that very large salary the taxpayers of Europe, including the UK, are paying him.

That’s made my day. The solitary bright spark on an otherwise disastrous Thursday night was Farage’s demise. Such is the view of my over-fat Green-supporting preachy-hypocrite of a neighbour. To signify his defiance at the democratic will of the people, he’s even put up a sign in his garden saying ‘Don’t blame me; I voted Green’.

He actually said he would stand again in the UKIP leadership elections. As there is no one to stand as potential opposition who would make the party electable he may as well not stand down.
