There is but only in the CC's minutes. New CC members will have access to those as soon as they are elected, well before having to make any decisions about directors.

I don't buy into the conspiracy theory - I'd like to think that the directors nominate people without expecting any undue support, and I'd like to think that the CC members vote for who they think are the best people for the job rather than just picking their mates.

I may be completely wrong, but until I see it in action, I can't really comment on how it works.
It works just like you describe. Ignore those who try to tell you differently, the CC as a whole is remarkably professional with the odd - very odd - exception.

If you're going to leave because Qdos offer the same thing (!) then it's probably best not to vote.

Should a current director be able to propose members to the CC? It seems to be stacking the cards slightly.
Hmmm... I can see why you raise the question although I'm not really sure what you mean by stacking cards.

For background, here's how my proposal came about. Make of this what you will.

At the time I was thinking of standing, there looked like there wouldn't be an election due to a shortage of candidates. I do care about IPSE - I've been a member from the off , and I think it deserves a CC comprised of people who will participate. So I thought "what the hell, I'll have a go". So mindful of the fickleness of the postal vote, I chucked together my rather ordinary candidate statement and forwarded it to said director, whom I have shared many drinks with, for his perusal and asked him if he'd propose me. Read his proposer's statement. He knows exactly that I'll tell it like it is.

In reality, I doubt anyone pays much (if any) attention to the proposer and seconder, and will vote based on the candidate's statement.

As I said on the IPSE forums , I'm nobody's "yes man" and I don't toe any lines. And from speaking to various IPSE directors and from reading the forums, it doesn't seem to me that they want "yes men/women". Instead, they (appear to) want constructive engagement from people that are genuinely interested - whether those people agree with them or not.

You'd better hope so - your proposer had a 3/4 failure rate last year

aye double edged sword indeed. Same with saying you've been around since the Pope was an altar boy - is that a good thing ? Or a bad thing ? Dunno. My view is you need a mix of old and new, but I get thoroughly pissed off when I read that CC members get elected and then never seem to get heard from again.

Yes - the silent CC doesn't help any of us. Hopefully we'll get candidates this year that don't disappear as soon as the results are known.

Wouldn't bet on it. We have candidates this year that haven't appeared yet...

Isn't it always thus? Or is this year worse than previous ( I can't remember ).
