Although I didn't need to fight, my children stayed with me, I would have if I'd needed to. Also, to use the fact that to fight would line the pockets of lawyers is not a reason, it is an excuse for shirking responsibilities.

I don't think that's the real reason, so perhaps you should stop being so judgemental. Walking away is a hideous decision for most people to make.
