The answer is yes(ish) you can claim child benefit from the day you settle in the UK and confirm you're not claiming in any other country.

Children shouldn't be allowed to claim benefits until they've spent at least 6 months cleaning chimneys, Guvnor.

Child Benefit..is that the working tax credit child bit or just the weekly amount given to any child???

Frigg have the Conservatives confused everyone up or what! Everyone knows we are being screwed by the OAPs. Osborne is chipping pennies away from every poor bugger to hand pounds to the rich OAP.

Sod it, I think I'll emigrate to Spain and claim benefits there. Luckily there's a website to explain how to do it. http://www.ukbenefitsinspain.com

Why are you quoting an obscure post from 2013?

Of course if you have a qualifying child (i.e. you've had a kid with a Brit/ILR holder for visa purposes) you can it all for free, albeit a ten year path.....
That's a heck of a rise. So, at under £150 / month Child Benefit for a family with 2 kids, they'd have to claim for something like 3 years just to break even on the application fees?
