Having studied the facts I have drawn the following conclusion.
The crew "nodded off" due to hypoxia. This in turn was due to a gradual failure in the oxygen supply. As the cabin was still pressurised no alarms were sounded and hence no 7700 squawk.
It would have taken around 30 mins into the flight for the noxious gases to build up to a level to cause this.
