Having studied the facts I have drawn the following conclusion.

The crew "nodded off" due to hypoxia. This in turn was due to a gradual failure in the oxygen supply. As the cabin was still pressurised no alarms were sounded and hence no 7700 squawk.

It would have taken around 30 mins into the flight for the noxious gases to build up to a level to cause this.

There could be many reasons. Maybe some berk forgot to change the bottles? Maybe there was a blockage?

Whatever happens, I foresee a massive refit of oxygen sensors, or other such enhancements to as to better protect the supply of oxygen, globally. With immediate effect and massive cost and impact to the airline industry.

In a word, get shorting now.

Most likely scenario for me suicide by pilot. Fighting on the flightdeck between pilot and co-pilot could explain the erratic descent.
Alternatively a highjack which also resulted in a fight on the flightdeck gone wrong.

Cockpit voice recorder will have captured anything happening on the flightdeck. They've already announced they've found the black box.
