The whole idea of asylum needs to be re-examined. There are 6 billion people in the world and a significant proportion live in poor, conflict-ridden or repressive nations. We can't keep carrying a burden for the rest of the world.

As for this idea, it might work to reduce numbers. Trouble is, our governments never check whether measures they introduce actually do work.

well let's face it, it will be completely open to corruption so it's bound to fail to do what it is supposed to do but it will put a few quid in a few peoples pockets!
