I just do the return, and pay it at the same time. Usually the last day it is due. Then no need for a direct debit. Viv la difference eh?Knock first as I might be balancing my chakras.Comment

I produce 12 sales invoices a year. Once a quarter I have to add up 3 values and take a percentage. Then put these values in 2 boxes on a website. Then click submit. Even I can't feck that up. I don't need help where I can help myself, and given that there are so few opportunities where I can help myself I relish in the ones that I do have.Originally posted by Unix View PostNo my accountant submits it, I ok it, then forget about it. The bigger news for us might be the raise of the personal allowance to £11k, a possible raise of the higher rate threshold to £50k, and clamping down on tax evasion and accountants that assist.

I'm not even an atheist so much as I am an antitheist; I not only maintain that all religions are versions of the same untruth, but I hold that the influence of churches, and the effect of religious belief, is positively harmful. [Christopher Hitchens]Comment

So your turnover is so low that the quarterly VAT amount doesn't hit your banks daily transfer limits:Originally posted by suityou01 View PostSo the benefit of the direct debit saves you having to remember to pay it. But you still have to remember to do the return. Got it. OK.
