I think the whole debate thing is pointless no matter who's on it.

It'll just end up a slanging match and it may as well be presented by Jeremy Kyle.

The only way a tv debate would be any use is to allow them to all sit round a table and chat about their ideas of how to make the UK a better place, without mocking and digging at each other and without a studio audience.

But that would be rubbish telly, so it won't happen.

They refuse to give a number now but Jim Murphy (#creepyjim on Twitter ) claims 20,000 members although, due to members tearing up their cards, other estimates give them 7,000 at most.

The most likely outcome of the May election will be a grand coalition Labour & Conserative, which will be interesting.

The only other feasible alternatives would be one party with the Lib-Dems.

A minority government couldn't last more than a few months and without any prospect of going to the polls to get a majority later on, probably won't happen.

There isn't really that much between Lab & Con anyway. They just voted through another £30bn of cuts together for the next parliament so I think they will go together.

Lib Dems could lose a lot of seats and not have enough to help either Lab or Cons past the finishing post.

Everyone thought a minority government wouldn't work but the Scottish parliament was set up in such a way as no party would get a majority (although SNP managed it last time round). It actually worked quite well with consensus required to get a lot of stuff through. Parties actually working together to find common ground, except for Labour of course who opposed everything just because the SNP suggested it. There was even an instance when Labour objected to a bill, SNP amended it to include what Labour had asked for and then Labour abstained from the vote!!

Wouldn't that be a hung parliament or something, or trigger an immediate re-election?

No, it's happened in the past. It's possible those two would do deal together to stop the smaller parties having a say in the country.

Other than the wartime coalition of Atlee/Churchill?

None of them are interested in debating, and 99% of the audience doesn't know what debating is. So I agree :P

**edit** well... Farage would be, but only up to a point.
