Would you lower your regular rate when contracting for charity?

A year or so ago I was approached directly by a well known charity, I turned out to be an excellent match. I mentioned my rate and they didn't want to or couldn't offer more than 60-70% of my rate, saying we are a charity, you should consider that, to which my reply was, yes but I'm not a charity. Needless to say I didn't get the contract. (now one year later on, I still see the same role popping up)

Ive contracted for a charity it was a real eye opener and i wouldn't consider a rate reduction they aint charitable when setting deadlines or requirements.

Had an agency once phone me about 5 times about a local gov job where the rate was tulipe. Kept going on about doing my bit for the community and how they didnt have much money. Not my problem.

From my experience there is a definite difference wholly between the charity head office etc and outsourcing to people who work really rather hard for these agencies to raise cash for charity...hence why I never now donate to charity.
