What's the length of the journey got to do with anything? I used to live in argyll & bute, was dependent on buses. Yes a car was quicker but I could not afford one. I just had to plan my time. Privilege gone mad.

You are ignoring the fact that if you start work at 8pm and finish at 5am you don't have any buses that can take you to work or help you get home if you live in the countryside or even on the outskirts of large cities.

I live outside of a major city, but within an easy walk of a town centre, train station, bus station, couple of supermarkets etc. etc.

I don't live in a big town and I do have a car, however I don't NEED a car. And neither does anyone else that lives in my town.

If you say that you NEED a car because you don't live in a big town, you're also saying that anyone that doesn't drive can ONLY live in a big town, which is clearly ridiculous.

If you can afford to have, and keep, a car then great. If you have to go without other stuff to keep that car, then you have a decision to make.

It's the same with Sky tv, Playstations and any other 'luxury' that's suddenly slipped into the bracket of 'necessity'. It's not a necessity at all.

It's not whether people have or don't have, it's that the media, politicians, you and I get confused about what the word NEED really means.
