Or it is possible that his ego couldn't handle the party going on to do well without him. Ergo he destroys the party and in the future says yes look they couldn't hold it together without me, I was New labour and when I went it died.....

TB announcement last year that he would not stand for a fourth term is seen as a major disaster (for him). Has any of the congregation ever shot themseleves in the foot in a big way ??

Tony Bliar has never wanted Gordon Brown to take over as PM or party leader. Much if not most of Bliar's posturing IMO is about maximising time for a Blairite figure to take over his reigns.Originally posted by sunnysanDo you think its beyond the realms of possiblity that TB is doing everything in his power to prevent NL from winning the next election?
There is a significant camp within the PLP who opt for AGB (Anyone but Gordon Brown). As the fall of Bliar crystalises more over the coming months, I suspect a serious challenge to Brown gains more & more momentum. It holds every promise to become an extremely grubby and messy leadership contest that could tear these great pretenders apart at the seams.
ps : How revealing is it that Charles Clarke has come out so venomously against Gordon Brown ? Clarke is unlikely to have forgotten how Bliar forced him onto his sword over the Home Office shambles. The fact Clarke attacked Brown in this way reveals at least some measure of the extent to which many Labour figures subscribe to AGB.Last edited by BobTheCrate; 8 September 2006, 12:02.Comment

Gordon Fatass
I am of the opinion that GB is going to get cut to shreds in the ensuing year as the economy slowly falters(Real or percieved) and takes him down. As the government are going to need to dump vast tracts of the public service to minimize budget deficit, calls for his blood will get louder and louder.
As James Carvilles (US Dem Party Strategist) oft quoted saying goes, "Its the economy stupid", I have a feeling GB will reap what he has sown.
He has enemies in Reid and Clarke and a few other high profilers owing to the fact that he is the natural successor and he has been TB's anal remora fish for so long.
The longer Tony Blair stays the more bloody the infighting will get as no clear successor can emerge while he is there. These assholes are going to throw so much sh1t around the pig pen, it will render them all unelectable.
Every financial irregularity, sordid affair and incompetence will be aired.
I dont know about you but I cant wait. Lets hope he survives the labour party conference.
I never thought I would say this but ... GO TONY GO!!! . I am rooting for youThere are no evil thoughts except one: the refusal to thinkComment

I think it is well and truly going wrong for Gordon Brown (well the economy). According to the Evening Standard 20% of nurses fear the redundancy. It is just one more example of where conspicious spending has just not delivered.Originally posted by sunnysanI am of the opinion that GB is going to get cut to shreds in the ensuing year as the economy slowly falters(Real or percieved) and takes him down. Then of course unemployment is going up and inflation is above target. It's becoming clear that the current inflation rate bares no resemblence to the increase in prices for those among the middle classes (who it has to be said have helped keep that grinning idiot Blair in power).
The cracks are starting to appear and getting Gordon Brown in is not going to help. As the person who was given much of the Domestic agenda he is the person responsible. Someone should have told him that when you grab the power you get the responsibility as well.Comment

They just need a caretaker until they are routed at the next general election. A bit like Jimbo Callaghan 30 years ago.
I listened to Margaret Becket on the radio yesterday. She was horrific. All I learned from her is that her party needs longer than 10 years to undo the "terrible devastation" wrought over 18 years by the Tories.Comment

Brown coming to power would be like Damian Thorn taking up reigns.
And how the hell did that foul horse-faced left-wing hag Beckett ever become Foreign Secretary?
Incidentally I wonder if those men that had sex with horses on the other thread would be sick enough to sleep with her.Comment

Because anybody who could do the job has been forced to resign and they have run out of anybody with talent (not that there were that many to begin with). I believe it was Tony Benn who had the labour parties talent and he left yonks ago.Originally posted by GreenerGrass
