    public investigate their own crimes

    this bloke has taken it a bit far:

    Jack the Ripper unmasked: How amateur sleuth used DNA breakthrough to identify Britain's most notorious criminal 126 years after string of terrible murders | Mail Online

    WORLD EXCLUSIVE: Jack the Ripper unmasked: How amateur sleuth used DNA breakthrough to identify Britain's most notorious criminal 126 years after string of terrible murders
    DNA evidence on a shawl found at Ripper murder scene nails killer
    By testing descendants of victim and suspect, identifications were made
    Jack the Ripper has been identified as Polish-born Aaron Kosminski
    Kosminski was a suspect when the Ripper murders took place in 1888
    Hairdresser Kosminski lived in Whitechapel and was later put in an asylum

    seems a bit odd to have a 'culprit'. will the Ripper case be closed?
    Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.

    It's a story in the Mail, which means it's horsetulip; so, no.

        Concede over a story in a Murdoch rag? Hardly

        The provenance of the shawl, on which the whole thing is predicated, is a bit dodgy by all accounts.

                Its genius work by the guy, buy the only physical evidence, publish a story and deny anyone else a chance to counter prove it

                  I'm just watching it on the news now. Apparently the shawl was taken by a Met copper at the time, who "wanted it for his wife".

                  Rather than applaud the chap for finding out who Jack the Ripper was, why aren't they arresting him for dealing in stolen goods and tampering with crime evidence?
