Finance wise they're not sure what currency they'll have let alone what companies will be left, OK so there's oil but then pricing for that is quite volatile. In Scooter we trustComment

It'll be the pound to start with whether union likes it or not. In the future that'll change I'm sure, but that's not important right as the media likes to bang on about, when thinking about child poverty. There's more important things right that need fixing which have been ignored for far too long.Comment

I like Scotland and Scottish people, but don't really mind either way. What I like about this whole process is that it is clear that there is a democratic and constitutional means available for leaving the union, unlike in Spain where Catalonia and the Basque country are constitutionally unable to leave even with a referendum.
What I don't understand is some English people having a big hissy fit about it all. It's all very throwing toys out of the pram.
Having said all that... from a Scottish perspective there are clear risks. The currency union is plain nuts and not going to happen, so Scotland will need its own currency to run alongside sterling in the style of the Irish punt - the Scottish government could take a view on pegging it or floating it. The EU is also a risk. I would think that Scotland would probably be given immediate entrance on independence. Will it be exempted from using the Euro? I imagine it would be allowed to join the Common Travel Area with rUK and RoI. But the risks are there and I do wonder why Salmond won't publish his legal guidance. Also, I understand that bank HQs will have to relocate to the countries where they do the most business (or have I got that wrong).Comment

I love the scrutiny from afar of how Scotland's finances would work on paper. How many other countries would be told they weren't viable if you scrutinised their finances ? The UK, had it been a company, would have had the administrators in years ago. When freedom comes along, don't PISH in the water supply.....Comment

I think the worry is we will be expected to support Scotland financially throughout and after separation.
I'm not sure Scotland earns enough to pay for what they spend.
We keep hearing about North Sea oil but I'm not sure who paid & pays to develop that?Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.Comment
