    1. NHS will be protected in an independent Scotland.
    2. Tolls on bridges were scrapped by the Scottish government. There are no toll roads in Scotland.
    3. They have a higher standard of living than we do.

      ^^ This

I think it will get very, very messy, mainly because the scots only have three cards to play (Oil, Trident, Debt). The first two are apparently already dealt. By threatening to play the debt card, they are then left with an empty hand if rUK decides to retaliate.

Ministers are keeping quiet about it, because they know any threats will just encourage more to vote yes. But once they vote "yes", there's no need to play nice anymore. rUK has plenty of ways at their disposal to "punish" Scotland if they renege on the debt, safe in the knowledge that Scotland can't retaliate because they will have dealt all their cards.

Will rUK escape unscathed - probably not. If Scotland's economy implodes, there is bound to be collateral damage. I just can't see them saying, ok we'll let you off the £100-150 billion, a good chunk of which was spent bailing out Scottish banks.

Well a large majority to vote MP's into Westminster are indeed English.

It's a bit like saying the referendum is for residents of Scotland only. There's more Scots living abroad the living in Scotland who don't have a vote.

In any case what are you going to do with bombs in the field? Put the ploughs out of a job?

You want an independent Scotland's security to be supported by Putin's Russia?

Doesn't sound like a particularly pleasant option to me.

Whoever said Scotland would get to keep the oil?

That aside, I'm happy for them to bugger off and go try their socialist experiment. See how long it lasts. As long as I'm not paying for it, I am happy.

I agree with this. It's British oil, the infrastructure was developed with British Money. If one country breaks away from the Union they shouldn't get more than their fair share just because the oil happens to be closer

The Falkland Islands are British and they're ******* miles away

Lord knows, listening to all the banter my gut feeling is "good riddance", but despite the rhetoric I cannot see any winners from a split.
