Darling, Darling, Darling, versus the Salmond

I'll pay for it. In fact I already do by living in Germany."Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience". Mark Twain -
I suppose to flip that the question it should have been - could you have weathered the financial storm since 2008 better as an independent nation or would you be like Ireland with the begging bowl at the UK exchequer door?Originally posted by scooterscot View PostAs a member of the audience said last night, "If we're better together, why aren't we better now?" To which there was a roaring cheer.
Excellent question. The UK is one of the richest nations on the face of the planet. So why is our country so unequal, socially and financially?
Pretty sure RBS would have gone down the panHow fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't thinkComment

I notice today that Darling saying that Scotland could keep the pound outside of a currency union has been turned into some kind of victory for the nationalists and therefore this is a now a non issue.
It is staggering that people don't understand even the basic arguments on this issue and that it can now be brushed aside.Comment

And so they should have. That's capitalism.Originally posted by Troll View PostPretty sure RBS would have gone down the pan
Democracy in the UK needs a drastic shake up. The electorate votes for one thing and gets another. Our basic rights are being stripped away in front of us with out of control immigration. I don't recognise the Britain I once knew. Where was the vote on privatising the post office? As an example of which they are many.
Why is it taking Scotland to shine the light on things that matter?"Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience". Mark TwainComment

Because there's more important things than money, as some of the audience last night said.Originally posted by minestrone View PostI notice today that Darling saying that Scotland could keep the pound outside of a currency union has been turned into some kind of victory for the nationalists and therefore this is a now a non issue.

Child poverty
Illegal wars / WMD
We could trade in bananas and probably still improve the prospects for many.
I know for many down south their world revolves around money, but in Scotland, that's simply not as important."Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience". Mark TwainComment

How do you improve the prospects of others who whenever helped pick the worst possible option..Originally posted by scooterscot View PostBecause there's more important things than money, as some of the audience last night said.

I'm sure it wouldn't have been hard to masquerade as a No voter.Originally posted by scooterscot View PostWonder how that happened? Because at the start of the debate BBC said they selected equal numbers of No and Yes voters with about 20% who 'don't know'.In Scooter we trust

I think this debate will further push the Yes vote for undecided voters. Darling's trump card was currency but he played it too many times that it was seen for what it is , a scare tactic. SCotland will use the pound no matter what.
Yes voters are much more likely to vote than No voters, especially with the polls showing a comfortable no win.Comment

More likely Yes voters had more to cheer about and No voters were cringing at how pathetic Darling's performance was.Originally posted by The Spartan View PostI'm sure it wouldn't have been hard to masquerade as a No voter.Comment

From the bit I saw Darling had said keeping the pound without currency union was a terrible option and completely unworkable, and Salmond seized on that as Darling admitting that Scotland could keep the Pound. That's even dumber logic than the "why isn't it better now?" comment.Originally posted by minestrone View PostI notice today that Darling saying that Scotland could keep the pound outside of a currency union has been turned into some kind of victory for the nationalists and therefore this is a now a non issue.
