2k a day one of our programme leads.

Moved in; refurbed his office, comandeering a further 2 meeting rooms and the outside space for his b*tches and a few sofas then put screens up so no-one could see in.

Then he scheduled an off-site in a Windsor hotel for a week with his minions to fix the programme.

Our day-jobs remained the same, polishing poop?

I can beat that. As a young sparkie contractor I had to work on the water systems in the pyramid at the top of One Canada Square when it was being built. Even got a trip up to the aircraft warning light platform!

When contracting for IBM there was always one PM who without fail, every time I spoke to him (2/3 times a month) would mention his son.

"Contractor hey? What's the rates like these days, decent? Not like they used to be, but my son he's the same as you, he's in London, managed to bag the magic 100 an hour, not bad hey? What what!" He was posh. I never begrudged his son, but after the eighth time of hearing it...

He had a negative bluety on a quackhandle and was quadraspazzed on a lifeglug.

I look forward to your all knowing and likely sarcastic and unhelpful reply.

Wife worked with someone whos new boyfriend was a contractor. She used to come in to work and boast that he was doing something different soon and it was £1000/day and they were going to move here, buy this house etc.

Really crass I thought that she used to tell everyone the rates and show off. In reality though, he worked for public sector doing desktop PC support which I imagine paid nowhere near £1000.

In the end, it became obvious that he was seeing these gigs on jobserve, telling his mrs who was then telling everyone what he'd be earning soon. Bit sad really.

It was a part-time contract but I once worked alongside a German guy on 1400 per day. He worked direct, the jammy git. Circa 2004.

The funny thing (oh, how he laughed) was that he was issued with the rubbishest PC ever, so could only open three windows before it started hour-glassing. He asked for more memory but was told there was no budget.

The client has since gone to the wall.

When internet banking was in it's infancy, there was an American web guru who set up the online transaction system at a bank I was at. It was reported he was on £3.5k a day plus his flights, hotels and other expenses were paid. I can believe it because they were throwing money at the project and we were all on great rates.

The IT director at a major energy firm in Britain is on a long term contract £2k per day and his main MO is to get rid of contractors and offshore their work

I scored a grand a day gig for a year or so in 2005. Working direct, client knew me and wanted me specifically in a pretty niche area. They were in the tulip with their client and prepared to pay well for me to get them out of it That was nice while it lasted.
