    Recommend a B&B near Glasgow?

Up here for 10 days visiting friends and watching a few bits of the Games. Fancy a night or two somewhere pretty while we're in Scotland but other than "Loch Lomond is nice" no idea where to look.

In an ideal world, I'm looking for a B&B overlooking a loch with either a cosy bar, or a pretty village pub a short stumble away, within a shortish drive of Glasgow. A nearby distillery offering tours would be perfect!

Anyone got any personal recommendations? Ta very much if so.

What about The Sandbanks Hotel, that should be far away enough from Glasgow to be pleasant
Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.

No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.

I used to stay at the Old Mill B&B when I was on site at the Inland Revenue Cumbernauld office (on their cheque reading machines/software).

Looks like it is still going - It has a nice restaurant and bar and, as I recall, self-catering accommodation away from the main house.

It is also 100 yards from an interesting stretch of the Antonine Wall, or what is left of it.

Not sure how far or handy it would be for wherever you need to be in Glasgow though.

edit: Looks like it is on the M80 about 12 miles North East of the centre of Glasgow.

You have absolutely bugger all chance of getting anything within a shortish drive of Glasgow during the games.

Not true - we found one room in one loch-side B&B/inn so far, out of dozens which were chocka You're right generally though, hardly surprising. Are they full with Glaswegians escaping, or tourists like us taking the chance to see a bit of Scotland while up for the games?

Glasgow does not have enough hotel rooms in general, city is usually fully booked every weekend.

I think people are being pushed out further and also this is Glasgow's traditional holiday fortnight.

Presumably dooohg needn't be bang in the middle of Glasgow.

For example, there are several B&Bs in Lesmahagow, on the M74 about 20 miles south east of Glasgow (although maybe that is pushing it slightly distance-wise). There are some nice country walks round there, if he'll be there at weekends.

Since we were thinking Lomond, an hour north is fine - outside the range of people just booking a B&B to visit the games. However as mentioned it's summer holidays on top of everything else so just plain busy.

Don't really know where to search though on Trip Advisor - Lomond is pretty but are there other places to search for which are known as particularly pretty? Don't know the names

We have one option on Loch Earn but at 90+min away would prefer just slightly closer - we'd be driving from Neilston, SW of Glasgow.
