Blanket authorization to agent to represent

Folks, this one is a first for me...

Agent calls me this morning talking about a potential role and gets me to send her my CV. She then calls again and then explains they have 'lines of communication' with several other companies and gets me to answer some usual questions to build my profile, so that she could contact all those companies on my behalf. I have figured by now , that I have been "fished" and there was no real role to start with.

Anyway she proceeds to email me this list of companies and asks me to confirm that I want them to contact all of these on my behalf.

I cant put a finger on it, but I know I shouldnt do this. Can people chime in about whats really going on here?

    Cheers!

No I would allow them only to put you forward for individual roles so you know exactly for what you are being put forward for.
    I'm alright Jack

I'd only let an agent put my CV forward for a specific role, when I've read the requirements. This sounds like they want your approval to ring people and see if they have any work for you, which isn't how I would want to operate.

Or lock you out of those companies by signing you up and not putting you forward (because they've already got candidates in there and see you as the competition.

I'm with TF on this one.

Plus unless you trust the agent, you know full well that they'll end up putting you forward for roles which you're not especially qualified to do. And when you do get an interview but decline as the role sounds tulip, they'll go apetulip at you for 'making them look unprofessional'.
