C++ linux contract?

Guys,
I've been trying to look for a new contract in C++/Linux, been struggling for a week now. Seems to me C++ is dying and there are only few companies working in C++.

IB sector... I cant apply as most of the contracts ask for previous experience in banking and finance (which I don't have) that leaves me with much limited options.

I have worked in java before and confident that can work in java if required but new contracts also ask for previous java experience for many years where as I am mostly done C++ in 9 years of development and have bits and pieces of java/C# in between.

I was on holidays during January, how are you all finding the market right now especially c++/Linux gurus?

seems to me that i am stuck in dead end. can anyone advise me a way out?

Note: "patience is the virtue, I may end up contract less for next 2 months".

It's a very tiny niche and in this country I don't see many companies investing in this field and if they do they don't look for contractors.

Look for permanent jobs. You'll probably find you're in-demand. I seemed to be when I was looking last year.

I wouldn't say that it's a tiny niche (in total), there are loads of jobs in C++ but they tend to be more specialised, so you have to combine it with a specific expertise.

Java guys do the "pictures" programming, which is very similar in whatever field you're in. They're like GP's. They know how to put forms together and simple business logic.

If not might I suggest sth like backend JS (node.js etc)?

Permanent is not an options, I have been asked by recruiters for perm stuff but I am simply not interested even if I am jobless for next 6 months

No I certainly don't want to be a C++ contractor in long run however I dont know the tactics of how to convince potential clients and recruiters that in java I am as good a contractor as I am in C++ and language doesn't make much difference after certain years of development. Recruiters just look for keywords and if they don't find those they simply reject it, new clients want to see commercial experience in java before they want to give me a new contract hence I am also finding it difficult to change a route from C++ contractor to Java Contractor.

Fair enough. In 6 months time you may feel different.

Go permie for a Java dev role for 6-12 months and then you'll be set.
