When Accenture were called Andersen Consulting, they had a reputation for paying well but making you work for it. PWC used to do the same, but were marginally better - they didn't like you starting too early on a Monday or finishing late on Friday but between those days they owned you.

I worked for Oracle Consulting for 6 years, starting as a graduate, which was great for three years, good for one, OK for one and lousy for the last. I'd never consider going back to a consultancy, that's for sure!

All of the above is accurate, and the given yardstick is that the "consultancies" will generally charge you out at a premium. So they are looking to get you cheap, unless they are in the "sh5t" with the project , in such a case you must charge an appropriate premium.

I have worked for PWC at a fairly senior level and though they were good, Did Oracle for 4 odd years as a specialist and they were pretty OK mostly on client sites thouugh, recently did bearing point and accidenture and they were shockers from the start, unbelieveablly dishonest both to their own staff and the client.

Unless you are very good at what you do, and I mean a good solid 4-6+ years experience, and you play hard on the negotiation, ie get paid properly and you pin them to a reasonable day rate and hours, and unless you are confident to do all that, you are coming in on a weak neotiation point and they'll treat you like a "body".

Anyone want tips on OZ (especially agents) feel free to ask.

Accenture

I worked for Accenture for 2 years as a permie and they are clueless in a Service providing environment, just look at Sainsburys and NPfit project both they have managed to royally **** up.

Be wary, they pay quite well for contractors but are very politically driven and they have the knack of putting non techies in charge of technical areas, which has proven dangerous.

However they are no worse than EDS or others I have worked.
