Advise on rate in Switzerland please

    Hi,
I have been offered a contract in Switzerland, 3 months of pretty niche IT development for a pharmaceutical client, and they want to pay me 500 eur / day. My own research suggests reasonable rates should be around 1000 CHF / day, meaning ~800 eur / day. What do you think? Anyone working there who could offer some insight?

Where are you working? I've found rates in Switzerland are similar to the UK - i.e. Basel/Lausanne is less than Zurich/Bern.

If you're not happy with the rate, don't take it. If you want more ask for it.

It's potentially a lot of hassle, and some expense, to get the necessary work permit for Switzerland. When I worked in Basel a couple of years ago I recall my permit finally coming through about a week before the end of my three month contract. Until then I'd been winging it and hoping for the best.

To the best of my knowledge (from research and collegues/friends who have worked there), you need an astronomical rate to justify working there due to how expensive it is. 800 eur a day doesn't sound that high.

              It's ambiguous.

"Advise (me) on (a) rate in Switzerland, please" or "Advice (needed) on (a) rate in Switzerland, please"

              That's why I hadn't corrected it before

So you are saying it's a complete **** up which ever way the OP intended to go?

The taxation rates in Switzerland differ from Canton to Canton. When you work in Switzerland, you need to be very careful, since you can potentially be liable for double-social-security payments...

I have had numerous offers, but none have been attractive enough even at CHF1000+ per day.

I went through the process a couple years ago when a large Pharmaceutical Company based in Lausanne were offering contracts. When the calculations were done, it was not attractive unless I was going to "make my life" there.

Seek professional advice from suitably qualified advisors.
I was an IPSE Consultative Council Member, until the BoD abolished it. I am not an IPSE Member, since they have no longer have any relevance to me, as an IT Contractor. Read my lips...I recommend QDOS for ALL your Insurance requirements (Contact me for a referral code).
