The 10 days option sound entirely reasonable. Half of your notice to the client and also not a killer for the new one. You can easily delay new contracts just by getting your contract checked by QDOS. Nothing is that urgent they will drop you just for a slight delay. It will take them longer to find someone new than it will to wait for the right guy so you you have some position power.
I would go in and tell them the situation, you got a new gig, you can do a 10 day handover and leave. I can't see they will be too unhappy with that, particularly when it's them that's caused this in the first place.
I would also kick your agent up the arse and ask why you are not getting all this information from him. Your contract is with him, not the client.
