Well that cheers me up maybe I can get off the bench !

In my usual client arena, the budgets and contracts run to q1/2/3/4 dates and come back end of FY budget is often too stretched for new blood, so that's why I would take something that took me up to Feb. Also, often 3 weeks plus between offer and getting on site so I would be ok

In your game, if something came up in Jan would it be a non starter if your "available from" date was a month away ? "start ASAP " is soooooo subjective to what industry you are in

I think I would still take it, as even if things do " pick up " Jan, there are no guarantees of a definite Jan start .

      Take it.

I've noticed that agents are looking for people to do January starts now.

Well, a crap contract has come through. Crap rate but on the plus side, pretty easy going (its NHS), flexible hours etc, hourly paid so its just 37.5, and some of the experience will be quite good. And one week notice. 45 mins by train, 5 min walk.

Only problem is - sods law strikes. Had two interviews recently which are looking quite good. One is 3x the rate (and although 100 miles from home is 4 days office, 1 day WFH), the other is 4x rate (albeit london not sure about WFH yet).

...which bit; completing the business entity test, and then getting terminated if you don't? Or completing the business entity test, and being found to be inside IR35 & taxed accordingly?

              3x rate is a no-brainer to me.

              Ditch the 67%-below-market-rate contract!!

Rate is so low it won't matter much to be honest! The tech in question is vmware BTW. Some experience at the mo - chance to earn a lot more so not all bad.

to be fair original is not really 67% below market rate. A little below but not much. It just utilises one part of my skillset that doesnt pay as well as the other. (The other contract is for my other skillset).
