I've seen permies go the same way. Arrived monday, out the door friday when his financial history finally arrived....merely at clientco for the entertainment -
He was bad enough to terminate the contract after 1 day!?!?!?Originally posted by Bunk View PostAh yes, forgot to mention he was pretty useless so it was probably deserved. He had a phone interview first so they should have found him out then, but they didn't. Ho hum. So it goes.Comment

Yep, many moons ago I arrived for my first contract and was shown into a meeting room. What I didn't know is that another chap had been doing the job for a week and been binned off as he had annoyed everyone on the team by then ! They had told him it was due to the budget getting squashed so bit awkward if his replacement is sat there, he had come in anyway to argue the toss.
Result was that I was on 1 days notice for the first 3 weeks in case they hated me too, naturally they loved me and the rest is history...Comment

Plot thickens. Client got back to me. If you remember there was confusion about my SC which, two weeks they said they had sorted. If you remember it was working for a third party but at the site of company that last held my SC.
Apparently, the day before they found out I wasn't cleared after all. Of course, could be a good bulltulip excuse.
But funny because agency told me client had said they decided they didnt need a contractor after all (Which sounds more plausible).
Got phone interview tomorrow for another SC role. To be honest, I really don't know at the moment what my SC status is so it could be a show stopper. Anyone been in a similar situation?
I'm hoping that they'll like me enough to put up with the hassle of maybe speaking to my last SC holder and trying to get it transferred (even though its > 12 months). From what malvolio says in the SC thread - there are no hard and fast rules.Last edited by psychocandy; 5 November 2013, 14:42.Rhyddid i lofnod psychocandy!!!!Comment

Why don't you phone up the company that holds your clearance? There is usually a department that handles the clearance applications and a register of this. This is what I did recently to find out that I was no longer cleared as it had been > 12 months since I used it.Originally posted by psychocandy View PostPlot thickens. Client got back to me. Another crap rate gig is on the cards. Same poor rate but 35 miles from home this time.
Better than £71 per week JSA just before xmas I guess. Only likely to last up until then.
Only thing concerning me once again is how it will look on my CV. Whats worse?
1. Looking desperate that you've taken a crap contract?
2. Having a gap of 3/4 months on the bench on your CV?
I'm tending towards (2). Already getting agencies asking me - so your last contract was in August then?Rhyddid i lofnod psychocandy!!!!Comment

It will not look desperate to take a very short crap contract.
Firstly only you will know its crap and secondly contractors are flexible resources we work where companies need us for however long that might be somehwere for a short time. Being in a contract will look better than still being out for longer.
A short job up until christmas if I needed to work I would take no hesitation.Comment
