    Going back to the mothership

I started my IT career at a UK bank. After 5 years I left and returned a few years later to do a 2 year contract. Another year down the line they're asking me back for some short term stuff. I'm far and away the best person for this work.

So what do I charge them? I was very cheap contracting there first time round. I recently turned down a role for the same company (not my old department) which was offering about £320 a day. Thoughts?

    cheers,

Ex-squeeze me? I wouldn't parse you an object for that

Typical non-London rates (which this is) are about £300 to £450....I'm thinking of £400+....the thing is for this particular work there is only me in the entire world who can do it....err, okay not true but I can do it way quicker and better than anyone else just because of having done so much of it in the past at this place, with these people and the same kit (nothing has changed since I left) etcetc

Don't mess around with day rates then, if your 're the expert, charge them a fixed price for each thing delivered + 15% ongoing support pa. Then you can do the job in a day and spend the rest of the week on the beach for the same income...

I'd charge out my own 6 year old daughter as having B.O. experience at £200/day, just because she can use a mouse!

I think what you're really asking is, how much can you get away with by playing the business experience card. This is the ace in your pack, not B.O. If they need you that much, then go for £600/day then let them negotiate...

Mmm, I was going to do hourly rates I was just simplifying. Fixed price, that is interesting - never really thought of that....I'll do some sums

Yes, I guess you are correct...it is the fact I know their systems inside out, perhaps I'll take your £600/day and factor that in to my fixed price calculations
