Ethernet CAT5 Cable re-wiring

Hi

I would like to wire Ethernet CAT 5 cable through my house. I have my home registered as the company address and use it as an office also.

Is it ok to expense the full cost through my limited company?

Right, so that's a claimable £2.50 for the cable and a non claimable £500 to get the modifications to your non commercial property.

Assuming of course that at both ends of the cable are business related kit owned by yourco and this isn't to connect your home media centre PC to your TV.

To the OP, just get some ethernet over plug sockets type affair.

Aye but that's about 40p of the cost. OP will need a bloke to route it all and box it off etc, with nice faceplates.

And where in your argument does the fact he can use this infrastructure for other personal use in his house? Any point that isn't in his office doesn't meet the wholly and exclusively rule does it.

Buy the company a couple of Homeplugs (network over powerlines), and Im sure these can be claimed as a company expense.. Problem sorted.

Guys - I merely ment buy spindle of CAT5e is no different to buying a router / switch / patch cable. I think you are maybe hammering the personal use argument. Are you saying that you buy a company router and no personal data passes through it? Basically you buy some cable and the few meters you have left over you use elsewhere.....

You also buy some tools to do the wiring so you can do it for clients.....

If you're doing the wiring yourself and it's what yourco does, then yes I'd say it's fine. If the majority of the costs is getting some guy to rewire your own home then it isn't.

Not generally I'm a dev. But I have done it once or twice for smaller clients.
