Working outside the city (London)...?

I've worked in and out of London. Generally, I've found the quality of people I worked with in the city is lower than outside. The reason is that in the sticks, there are only a few decent employers, so the good people in the area go there. The employers have the pick of the best. In London, there's so many people and so many employers that even crap people can get a reasonable job.

Years ago, I worked for British Gas. It was noticeable that the London mob, despite being on higher grades (for retention, so they could be paid more for the same work as the non-London staff) were less competent - when any of us went on secondment there, they were desperate to keep us.

I now work for a client in an office on the 6th floor of a modern building, with views across the Rhein into the Schwarzwald.
Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!

The reality of working in IT in the UK is that most of the jobs are in London and the South-East!
Outside of that area there are less jobs and more people chasing them.
Wherever the job is, preference is usually given to local candidates providing they have the correct skill-set.

That's just rubbish from start to finish. Yet more musings with no facts like most of the posts in the last few days.

Such negative comments show a distinct lack of imagination!

Looks to me like you can't imagine a job market outside of the City.

You keep telling yourself that matey. It's not true, but you keep telling yourself that.

What *is* it about London people that seem the think that the world ends once you get to the other side of the M25?

Don't need to use imagination when the facts can be found with a little research.

Where are the Jobs? | Indeed.co.uk

I wouldn't trust this implicitly as I can't find any info about how it finds and quantifies it's data but certainly casts doubts on your imagination.

Of course their are. The M4 corridor springs to mind. But elsewhere there are more candidates for less contracts so you have to be prepared to be more mobile. That's all.

Your evidence? Or is this your imagination again?

I am talking about IT jobs not jobs in Macdonalds or KFC.
