Hi all,
First of all, I was indeed naïve and you may call me names and whatnot but to make a long story short: I'm on a contract with a UK agency and a foreign umbrella company in place, carrying out work in my own country (not UK).
The agency was very vague and pulled a <fast one> by not mentioning any of the "downsides" of being a contractor, pretending not to know about my country's legislation and so forth. Just being two-faced <agents>, which seems to come with the trade.
Basically, I did not know this contractor-set up existed until recently but I do know that I sit here with about 50 % less pay than I had at my previous permanent job and no (contractual) way of getting out. Meanwhile, the client claims to be unaware of how the agency conduct people like and some people at the clients' aren't very impressed either. Simply put, it's a horrible contract, let alone compared to what a standard (permie) contract would look like where I come from.
So, please. I know I'm <in a bad place>, but how can I get out of this smoothly?
How is the option of just stop coming to work and tell the agency I got AIDS or some super-aggressive flu and must lay in bed for the remainder of the contract?
Many thanks in advance and please spare me any lectures if possible - needless to say I've learned a thing or two about reading contracts. I've gone from pissed off to sad, to in denial, to semi-depression and to pissed off again.
