Providing own equipment

In process of setting up my kit (laptop etc) to access the client infrastructure as they have an Own Use policy. I already provide my own 3g while on the road / travelling etc.

Now, doesnt this in some small way help in an IR35 case? if so, is it worth giving up the mobile they given me and using my own? I wouldnt bill them for the calls, as it already goes through my limited co and i have a large inclusive package / use my landline for conf calls (freephone number).

The newbie guides and many of the other IR35 threads cover using your own kit. It does go towards IR35 but is a small flag. Saying that there is nothing wrong with using clients laptops or phones. They are tools for the job not direction and control.

It's a useful indicator that you are in business in your own right, but using client co kit doesn't really count against you. There are numerous valid reasons why client co would refuse to allow you to use your own kit on site that would apply to everyone.

Client co kit hasn't got all of my software on it either, no VM's only 1 version of SQL Server, none of my previous work for quick reference and I can't set up outlook to point to my emails

I'm just a PM so have office and Project. All the rest are e-apps which I can access using VPN. Going to give them the laptop back but as my phone number is widely distributed so wont touch that.

Well if you need a licensed product you have to use their kit. I would just use theirs and forget about it tbh.
