TOGAF certification

Hey all

I want to get TOGAF certified, but only through an online course (i.e. during downtime at work or on weekends). Has anyone done this and can you recommend a course provider?

You don't need a course provider. It's a lot cheaper to DIY

Get a copy of the books, study up and arrange the exams.

BTW if you have any real architecture experience you won't learn much.

Still, it's another piece of paper.

I've been digging around on the web and I've downloaded some pdf's and slides used for training. PM me with an email address and I'll send them over.

Let me start by saying that I think Togaf like Zachman has an amiable job in IT. However as it currently runs, most of the documents that are manually created should be nothing more that reports generated by reporting tools. As so too many times people end up trying to write stuff that is out of date already.

IMO Having TOGAF as a key requirement in a job spec tends to move 90% of the role away from the technical, problem solving and delivery functions and replace it with tomes of documentation that is worth nothing, when complete and will never ever get updated as the system grows.

The ADM has some key elements that are useful for a project structure (inputs / processes / outputs) however everywhere that I have seen use TOGAF in its entire cycle are hell holes full of bell ends demanding more and more documents just so that civil servants can call more review meetings...

Bobspud is more or less right I'm afraid so if you want any techy side to your work think again.
The flip side is that if you can handle producing all that documentation you should be able to get plenty on contracts as amny large clientco's like to think they are working to the TOGAF framework (even if they are not...we all know it's not something that can be used out of the box and you only ever really use the bits that suit a particular enterprise)

I will be doing an online course in the next two months when i have a clearer picture of my cash flow for the next year.

Some have said it can be done from books so why bother with the course. That is true but the connections made and the two way communication you can get with a certified 'expert' is invaluable when learning IMHO....especially in EA which is essentially a soft skill. I do believe it's as much 'how you do it' as 'what you know' in this particular arena...much like project management.

Hi

I am looking for an accredited togaf course. So far I have found two places: knowledge academy and ea dynamics. Does anyone have any experiences with any of the two?
