    PM to SA

Anyone gone from PM to Solution Architect? how did you find it?

I may have the opportunity (turned one down last year...) but now thinking it may be a really good string to my bow.
I didn't say it was your ******* fault, I said I was blaming you!

I suggest you accept it and find out if you can do it when you get there.

    You may surprise yourself...

I'd be more scared of you not being able to architect a solution, but hey, that's just me.

Not being 'funny', but I've worked as an SA on-and-off for 15 years. I've never come across a single PM who could have fulfilled that same role. And you can because?

WHS - I've worked in some scary environments where people have moved from PM to SA or techie developer to SA. They're completely different areas - I don't know of a single PM that I've worked with that could ever consider being a solution architect.

If you have the skills to be an SA and want to, then go for it, though.

Depends on your initial background. I tend to move between PM, BA, Data Modeller, Developer, Architect etc. I do all of them equally badly.

I can well believe that you could sell yourself in this way

Not saying I can, which is why i was asking what the change is like... I'm an ex-techie and IS manager, but must admit my skills really do lie in transition management. However, I've done a lot of pre-sales which included solution creation and got heavily involved. I've enjoyed the bits I've done. I've supported well (and feedback has been good).

Just looking for other options should i fancy a change!
