    Employment vetting

Hi everyone. Just taking my first plunge into contracting.

I might be worrying over nothing, but one of the questions on the vetting form (Reed, for a major bank, albeit in Insurance) is

"Have you ever been refused bank account facilities, including charge/credit cards or had them withdrawn?"

The honest answer is 'yes' - can't remember when, but I've been turned down for a store card or something like that before, and when I looked into it it was because I had recently remortgaged and my credit score was (temporarily) rubbish.

However, I'm now worried this could go against me. Thoughts? My credit score is otherwise very good.

There is no credit score anymore, products are matched your your credit profile, some aimed at people with less than perfect so you can actually get turned down for stuff even with a spotless record. If the reason was credit scoring it will be an old one so a non problem IMO.

They are looking for peope with huge debt problems that might be tempted to use the banks systems to ease their financial situation. We all get refused some card or other from time to time.

Most importantly however is be honest. They will find this out during their checks anyway. Turned down store cards they can live with, liars they cannot.

Admit it and forget about it IMO.

Do an exprian credit check and admit to anything it turns up - nothing about store cards being decined, they are only looking for defaults and only defaults

it amazes me to see people from far away countries getting positions which require screening. How the **** can they possibly be properly screened if theyare from another country/continent where you have no clue about what they have been up to - its not right i say

Nope. More to do with being able to get certified for anything with no questions asked and a small donation to the cause.
              Blog? What blog...?

If you dont disclose it and they find it, your application will be chucked out. If they find out after you start, you could be walked off site.

Then, you'll have a far harder time trying to get a job in banking ever again.

                Your call!

I feel slightly between a rock and a hard place. My credit history is pretty spotless - hardly any searches in last two years (no new credit), no missed payments, obviously no defaults or CCJs.

In the past I have been declined for credit and when I looked into it could see it was simply because there had been recent searches (i.e. remortgaging). A credit search would not reveal these declines, they are so far in the past.

My agent is happy with the approach as well - I have asked their opinion. As someone has said above, they're only interested in defaults etc.

Why do you feel between a rock and hard place?

You seem to be in a pretty good place to me. Refusal for a store card is very minor so you look fine.

Fill in the forms honestly and away you go.
