Why are you even bothering with this?. Haven't you heard the term 'flogging a dead horse'?
It's a rubbish contract. They'll keep you hanging on (obligated to work for them) with no promise of work.
Walk away and look for a new gig.
(Actually, why am I even bothering with this?)Thanks for the constructive advice.Originally posted by MarillionFan View PostIgnore my cynical peer. This ain't no Hong Kong Phoey.
As a word of advice. Never turn down interviews while waiting on a contract. They are good practice and they keep your options open.
2nd. Sounds like a right royal mess around, but be firm with agents. The timeline alone I would have taken something else.
Please note that what made the circumstances behind this unusual was that, by sheer coincidence, the client in London and the client in Hong Kong were infact the same client, just different regional offices. They have close ties and daily contact among the staff. Most of the Hong Kong staff are ex-London staff.
Please also note that I did not reject the offer of the role in London until the role in Hong Kong was offered during the second interview.
I had to consider the possibility that had I accepted the London role then left for Hong Kong several weeks later leaving a piece of work unfinished in London both offices might have viewed this as dishonest. I did not want one office to feel they were being dumped in favour of the other and thus be the catalyst of bad feelings.
The London Office could have asked "When did you first become aware you might be moving to the Hong Kong office?". My answer would have had to have been "Before I started here in London." (The London Office could have checked this with the Hong Kong office).
The London Office might have had a claim against me for acting in bad faith, thus jeopardising the Hong Kong contract and future engagements with them worldwide.
While both contracts have now been lost, it is established fact that the agent involved in the Hong Kong role was negligent so they are liable for it. I hope for their sakes they have valid professional indemnity insurance or things will be about to become very expensive for them.Last edited by factgasm; 19 December 2011, 18:09.Comment

Shouldn't this thread be IN General?Originally posted by NotAllThere View PostIf you want to discuss banning, try the General forum. Not this thread.
If the OP hadn't put the flights part in, or had built up to it over the weeks this thread went on, they could have got away with it IMO.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

So paying a fortune for a flight came top choice over a phone call or an email to the other office???? A very strange choice!! Must have more money than sense and all this after being out of work for months also waiting for the job to 'possibly' happen.the client in London and the client in Hong Kong were infact the same client, just different regional offices.Comment

The agent failed to comprehend the contract sent to them by the client on 8th November. You failed to comprehend my opening post of 16th December.Originally posted by curtis View PostSo paying a fortune for a flight came top choice over a phone call or an email to the other office???? I have been very clear on this matter.
RTFM.Originally posted by factgasm View PostCalls were not returned. Emails went unanswered. No one appeared to be driving the issue. No one appeared to be taking ownership. No one appeared to be taking responsibility.Last edited by factgasm; 20 December 2011, 12:04.Comment
