    One job by two agencies

    Hi,

I am sure many of us here has come across the situation where you apply for a job by agency A and few days later agency B come across and show you the same job.

I am in the similar situation. The difference is that I am still waiting for last 3 working days to hear from Agency A. I am having my doubts that the AgencyA hasnt sent my CV and tomorrow she is going to tell me that my application was not successful!.

Does any one has any idea how to handle this ( if at all!!)

    ta

Edit: I havent yet applied through AgencyB

If you don't trust agent a then there is no real harm in letting agent b put you forward. The worst that could happen is that you would be put forward by both. Most agents would make out this is disastrous as this would look bad to the client but in reality HR would just let the first one through to the hiring manager.

No. The worst that can happen is both put your forward, the client wants to interview you and a huge argument starts about who put you forward first and you agreed for one of them to represent you and then the client says **** this and bins you.

It is a tough call, almost to a gamble. If you believe A hasn't put you forward you could try B but you have no evidence what A has done. Not hearing anything does not mean he hasn't put you forward.

Try and find out who is on the PSL for the client, see who is the biggest and most reputable of the agents and go with that. If he says he has put you forward sit tight and keep looking. If you hear nothing then such is life. Increasing the number of agents you apply to does not mean you have better chance of getting the job.

If you did not get a call back from the other agency, then it suggests they have better candidate(s) on paper in which case you are probably screwed any way. I would put the CV forward to Agency B because the worst that will happen is the top chaps put forward from agency (A) Will kick your butt when it comes to the interview stages anyway...

Or occasionally agency (A) missed your CV and wonders why his candidates just got their backsides handed to them in a sling and another agency got the job filled using you.

Go for it and let your CV be put forward again. Or better still, call the client and find out who their preferred supplier agencies are and apply through one of them.

If it starts a fight between two agents then just let them it out, they will normally come to some arrangement.

I ask for an email confirming the agent has put my cv forward. If I don't get an email I assume they haven't.

The correct answer is when any agent contacts you about a role, you give them exclusive rights to submit you for a limited period.

This can be as short as 12 - 24 hours providing they will confirm in writing \ email that they have submitted you to the end client.

Alternatively, you could give them a larger window of exclusivity say, 48 to 60 hours after which, if you havent secured an interview via them the period of exclusivity ends and you are free to be submitted by any other agent you contact \ who contacts you.

What could also happen (and what used to happen years ago) is that the client gets two copies of your CV and chucks them in the bin.

I've got most of my roles in the last ten years or so via contacts, so haven't really done the agency thing much, but two copies of your CV landing with the client via different agents meant instant binning !

My point exactly. On that seems to have been missed on two points after mine. The worst that can happen isn't the agents arguing, it is you getting binned. It happened to me so it does happen. I applied for a finance role in North West and a banking client in Cheshire. Despite asking the agents they wouldn't divulge anymore. Got asked for interview, came up 2nd agent had me. Argument ensued and I had my interview cancelled. Do not play the agents against each other. It will always work out bad for you.

Sorry NLUK. Didn't fully read your post.

However, in my experience, you are right.
