    Mini Boomed ???

I'm caught in the middle of a very annoying situation whereby I attending an interview for a big financial in the NW over 2 weeks ago, got offered the role the same day subject to getting final HR signoff which I was assurred was the norm for this company. Two weeks later, still not received any word from the agency dispite several phone calls. The annoying thing is that I know the hiring managers manager, so assures me that the role is mine and he wants me to start a week on Monday. The agency say they haven't had the approval from a financial point of view yet so can't issue the contract.

The best part was the agencies closing words this morning were "don't worry if you want to find another role in the meantime" - What sort of consolation is that !!

    Thoughts please....

Until there is a signed contract in your paw and a start date you should assume you have absolutely nothing!! Even on the first day you should be prepared to be turned away at reception like some posters have.

Keep applying for jobs and carry on as normal until that contract hits your door mat.

If you set your mind on every contract they say you are going to have you are going to get seriously pissed off with contracting in a few years.

I may be quite a newbie to this site, but not to contracting. I have probably 15 contracts under my belt (nothing compared to guys on here I'm sure) and have never come across a situation like this before where it appears the end client thinks I'm starting on such a date, yet the agency appears to know nothing about it...

does the agency know that you know the hiring managers manager?

It could be that they are fobbing off the client with some excuse as to why you can't do the contract whilst they shove in their prefered contractor who will do it at a cheaper rate (and a higher margin for them)

My thoughts exactly... I've never had any dealings with this agency before, though it's a well known one....

            1. The paperwork may not still be signed off.
            2. The agency could be playing tricks

If you know the company then you need to get them to tell the agency that you are the only one they are considering for the role and if you are not available then they will go elsewhere.

                Hi,
Just send an email directly to your friend and his manager minion, and state that you are happy to start on Monday if he wants you to, but you still have not had anything from the agency in regards of a contract or start date. Then let them sort it out.

Ahh, it's just a SNAFU. Sit tight and keep your options open. I can assure you that the second the client gives the go ahead to hire you the agency will be banging on your door... Keep the lines of communication open to the client though - they are the ones that count here.

At my last gig I had a situation where the hiring manager wanted me there the following Monday and told the agency so but the client HR dept (who were in Australia) hadn't sorted the paperwork. I found myself in a similar situation to you myself but it cam good in the end albeit a week later than the hiring manager wanted. If they want you and have the funding, it will work out OK.
