    Paying Your Own Interview Expenses

I am pretty savvy when it comes to paying myself mileage/expenses when it comes to working on a contract, however I am not so sure about if I can claim for expenses for prospective contracts.

While I am on a contract all expenses are backed up with invoiced days etc so if Hector ask's I can show him what I only claimed mileage for days invoiced.

In an example where I live in Leeds but am invited down for an interview in London am I able to claim mileage, even maybe an over night stay if its an early interview, I would say yes as its a business expense, but how would I prove this to Hector that it wasn't just a jolly?

Just keep a copy of the email or whatever media that details the meeting as evidence. If he asks you show him this pinned to your expense form and job is done. Interviews are business developement so allowed.

Just like when you go to Vegas on a business trip and claim the week as expenses. You need to include the entry tag to CBIT or whatever technology event relevant to your business that you went to Vegas to attend.

That SQL PASS Conference is Seattle in October is now sounding promising.

      Business class return ticket?

I look forward to your all knowing and likely sarcastic and unhelpful reply.

Yeah, sure but don't be sucked into thinking that everything your company pays for is "free" and costing you nothing. At the end of the day, 80% of the expenses you incur are coming out of your own pocket...

Surely its a cost of sales.

Like a salesman driving around to sell photocopiers, you are travelling to sell your company's services.

Agreed, Hector should take this into account too but no chance of course.
