How is SC use recorded?

I've just been offered a 1 day role which I wouldn't normally be interested in but... It's SC cleared so in theory should reset the 12 month clock which would have expired at the end of the month.

Does anyone know how this is recorded? Will just booking in on site be enough to set of some mechanism rolling or should I be more proactive in making sure someone at DVA knows?

The Branch Security Officer (or equivalent) will need to check your claim to be SC cleared with the DVA.

Said BSO will be telling them why they are asking.

You could speak to the BSO and ask them to ensure DVA make a note of you being there "In case your organisation needs me again, it'll save time in the future" or some such.

Cheers RC, it's a small outsource outfit on a large aerospace site so would the BSO be working for the main client?

Very probably. It's unlikely the outsourcers will have a Security Office and the Aero site Security will need the SC shared with them anyway.

Will you not have to have your SC transfered to someone or other before you can go on site or is a simple check all that is required? I thought it was the first but never come across such a short requirement before.

Nice little reset job though! I would have done something like this for free just to not lose my SC at one point. Gone now though

A check will usually suffice, especially for such a short piece of work. I've known the transfer of a valid SC take almost 6 months?!

Yeah I have seen the same. Interesting to know about a check reseting though. Wonder if a call back to your old company who has your SC clearance and persude them to call up and do a physical check and mention you have possible short contract it will reset the clock every time then?

What you guys need to remember is that the clearance belongs to the role, not to the role-holder. No more role, no more clearance. The one year "rule" is a convention to save time and effort rather than an absolute right. The clearance for a contractor lasts five years, only if you are in a role where full security oversight can be provided. If you aren't, there's no requirement on the hirer to assume you are still cleared, no matter how long you've been away from a cleared role.

Oh no, I don't work for you, I've moved on. Where to? Oh no, I don't have another ListX job, I just want you to lie to the DVA on my behalf so that I can pretend I have valid security clearance when in fact I do not. That way I can, at some arbitrary point in the future, gain access to nationally vital data and systems by your participation in my duplicity. It'll save all that messing about with paperwork and me having to be checked again in the future. You won't? How about if I bung you a few quid?"
