    What sort of contractor would reply to this?

    I received the below mass email from an agent this morning that almost made me spit my coffee all over my keyboard. It would be funny if it weren't real.

    THE ROLE ENTAILS SHIFTING RAW FILES INTO SQL DATABASES. YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE SSIS EXPERIENCE.

    -SSIS;
    -ETL.

    BENEFICIAL SKILLS:
    -FINANCIAL BACKGROUND!

    RATE: £100-145/DAY

    IF INTERESTED, PLEASE SEND AN UP-TO-DATE CV AND BE AVAILABLE FOR INTERVIEW TODAY!!!

    Sadly there's a reason for that.

    The agent/client will then say that they can't find anyone to fill the vacancy, then they'll bring Bob in to do it.

            That looks like a reasonable requirement. Obviously they've lowballed the rate to see how the land lies (slightly cheeky, but we all do it sometimes) and will end up having to settle for about £220/day, but proper contractors don't let the client tell them their rate anyway.

              Isn't there somewhere we can report this type of nonsense?
              If it isn't market rate then like CJ said this may just be a 'Bob' placing exercise

                  No, there isn't. The government (this one probably even more than the last) believes that IT skills are not a service that adds value, but just a cost to business. Therefore they are in favour of business keeping the cost as low as possible.

                  They may be obliged politically to pretend the opposite, but it isn't true.

                    At some point they will wake up and realise that retaining an IT skills base is as strategically important as retaining the ability to build nuclear submarines.

                    Or they won't.
