20% expenses (way less than perm benefits) and we cough on the rest...

No. I want the end of IR35, and if they have to, something specific to stop Friday to Monday 'contractors'.Originally posted by northernladuk View PostPlease tell me this is done with <sarcasm> tags that I am missing? You want the end of IR35 and instead a flat scheme that will capture us all, including those outside IR35 and slap us with a bill we have been quite rightfully able to avoid?Cats are evil.Comment

Well we'll just have to agree to disagree then.Originally posted by Moscow Mule View PostNope, but I can guarantee they will look at CIS as a success story for dealing with contractors (even though it doesn't really apply).
They may or may not base the rules on sub or super set of the CIS rules.Blog? What blog...?

But surely if they bring out some sweeping, unflexible arrangement it is going hit us that work hard to run a business and supply services to clients who don't appreciate the difference between a supplier and a body? Are you not worried whatever new legislation is going to lump you in the same boat as your much despised Friday to Monday Contractors? I will be livid if I end up being classed the same as some of the numpties that have been posting questions recently.Originally posted by swamp View PostNo. I want the end of IR35, and if they have to, something specific to stop Friday to Monday 'contractors'.'CUK forum personality of 2011 - Winner - Yes really!!!!

If some new rules comes in which makes us all have to pay more tax - I assume we will have to up our rates to cover for this (if not I suppose there will be many contractors going back to permanent jobs making the end clients rely on even more expensive consultancies to provide the services once provided by contractors)..Comment

Why? There are people on similar rates both inside and outside of IR35 so one person paying more tax than another on a similar rate. Same goes for people with a LTD and a brolly. This goes on now so why should it change? Our tax position is of no concern to the client and his rates whatsover.Originally posted by dynamicsaxcontractor View PostIf some new rules comes in which makes us all have to pay more tax - I assume we will have to up our rates to cover for this (if not I suppose there will be many contractors going back to permanent jobs making the end clients rely on even more expensive consultancies to provide the services once provided by contractors)..'CUK forum personality of 2011 - Winner - Yes really!!!!

'simpler' - Is that simpler as in 'just tax every contractor dividends'. or as in 'get rid of it it entirely?McCoy: "Medical men are trained in logic."

Of course it's not a concern for them, but if you have to pay another grand a month in tax perm work locally might be very tempting for people.....Originally posted by northernladuk View PostWhy? Yes there is a worry they will either cock it up or bring in something worse (that catches everybody). I am simply an optimist on this review. The Conservatives and Lib Dems have generally been sympathetic to the plight of IT contractors. There are several hundred thousand of us, we're mostly high earners, we mostly vote, and I hope they don't want to piss us off.Originally posted by northernladuk View PostBut surely if they bring out some sweeping, unflexible arrangement it is going hit us that work hard to run a business and supply services to clients who don't appreciate the difference between a supplier and a body? The Coalition cannot exactly come out and say they are bringing in a tax cut with their IR35 review. The fact that this issue has come to the fore so soon, from what is effectively an economic War Cabinet, and a bodged-up coalition Cabinet at that, can only be a good omen.
The people who are worrying are the PCG. Come October their membership will be in terminal decline....

But that kind of optimisim is similar to you being a fluffy rabbit and the hunter misses with the first shot. Your optimistic bunny thinks that he will give up and go home. The realism of it is he is going to getting a bigger ******* gun and blow your ass off for sure second shot. Think about why they want IR35 of similar. The whole idea of this is to get MORE money in. Based on that you would have to be one hell of an opimist... or blind... not to see something coming that is worse and benefits only the HMRC's income. If the HMRC wants more money then it can only mean more of us are going to have to pay. Optimism is for the weak. Realism rules.Originally posted by swamp View PostYes there is a worry they will either cock it up or bring in something worse (that catches everybody). I am simply an optimist on this review.
