    Bench beckoning

Been contracting for 3 1/2 years and just coming to the end of my 2nd contract. Finding something new was easy peasy 2 years ago, but I've got a nasty feeling this time. I work within healthcare so NHS and NHS suppliers are almost my only possible clients. I do have the benefit of being very good at what I do (if I say so myself) and having some niche (non-techie) expertise.

    So, I have:

    Put my CV on Monster
    Trawled the job sites
Put out feelers to contacts (most in same position or rates well down).

Any other ideas for what to do in a difficult climate.

Not overly worried as I don't have any expensive vices so the war chest will last a long long time, and the summer looks like it will turn out nicely . Will update this with my progress, as much for my benefit as for anyone else's.

    All the best

    OG

I keep meaning to update my profile but still haven't.

Like you, I'm torn between deciding whether it works.

For every person who says it's a good tool there is one who says it isn't.

I'm not the best at networking so am not so sure if, in my scenario, it is much use.

Once I've got time on my hands, there'll be no harm in it. Thanks again.

Depends on how much time you like to spend dealing with agency fishing calls...

And if you don't want a new contract, then this is exactly the attitude you should take. JaaaayZus....anyone would think it's not in our interests to find you a new contract.

@thv Seasoned contractors can tell the difference between fishing calls and genuine calls from the off. genuine ones are welcome from linkedin.

I've received a few emails from company's recruiting directly recently, and I have read a report where linkedin could be the demise of agency's as companies bring their recruitment back in house.

I'm willing to give it ago.

                    Stop being such an idiot.

The OP asked about LinkedIn. That's what I've replied to, because, like many others, I registered for it an found I had nothing but time-wasting pillocks on fishing trips.

God knows how many "XXX wishes to add you to their LinkedIn group" messages I accepted - I didn't get one single sniffing of a real role. Just a-holes begging for prior client details. Many other posters on here have found the same thing: use Search.

Still, if you want to continue your childish "tantrum", please don't let me stop you...

EDIT: Ps. I've been contracting nearly 22 years, so not using linkedIn hasn't exactly killed my career so far.
