Last time I looked at my linkedin profile there were about 150 people who wanted to connect to me. I only looked at it because a friend wanted me to connect with them.

Unfortunately apart from that friend every other person was a pimp.

Oh and one pimp phoned me upset because my profile is a load of rubbish.

And yes I do use social media but just not that one and oddly very few pimps have caught on with that one in the UK.

I only use LinkedIn for business networking.

The other social networking sites are purely personal...

          Thanks for your thoughts everyone.

Had a call from my agent saying there is the possibility of staying on with client for another 12 months or so on an unrelatedc project. So there will either be more work (hopefully) or I find out that they really don't want me around and it's not just that they've run out of work. We'll see.

Hmmm. Not looking good out there. No more work where I am after the end of the month. Almost nothing advertised on the job sites, hoping it picks up again after the summer but it's public sector money I'm chasing (either directly from NHS or from its suppliers), so it could be a long slog.

Linkedin was useful in putting me in touch with people, and a couple of old colleagues have suggested looking in otgher industries - transferrable skills such as business change etc. Not sure how to do that or even if I want to.

              1. Rewrite your CV so you have different ones for the different markets sectors you are applying. (Some of the people you are in touch with or even on here can help you.)
              2. Apply for relevant roles.

Thanks Sue Ellen, I have 2 basic CVs (1 business change and 1 clinical IT systems) which I tailor according to the roles... but there are no relevant roles currently. As I said, I am hoping it is just the summer lull, but I suspect that is only half the story.

Must stop getting so worked up as I'm not quite even on the bench yet.

If your ex-colleagues are indicating that you have skills that you can fit into more roles then you will either need to be able to tailor one of your CVs very quickly, or have more than 2 versions ready.

Don't get all the complaints about LinkedIn. Anywhere you put yourself out there to find jobs, agents will be looking to find you, or more likely your past clients. Just ignore their requests, that's what I do... or sometimes reply a quick "sorry but I only link with people I've worked with" line.
